In Fandom, it was snowing today after over a week of holiday-themed festivities, and it was Christmas.

In Los Angeles, meanwhile, neither the weather nor the holiday seemed particularly relevant as Wesley pored over the scroll that Angel had stolen from Wolfram and Hart the week before. He'd managed to identify it – the Scroll of Aberjian – and locate the selection that pertained to the vampire with a soul, but actually deciphering what it said about Angel was proving difficult.

More accurately, it was proving maddening.

"Shanshu… shanshu…" he murmured. "Maybe it's shu-shan." It didn't sound like any Aegean he'd ever heard, but maybe something else…

"Are you still trying to figure out that word?" Cordelia asked. "What's taking so long?"

"Gee, I don't know, Cordelia," Wesley snapped. "The prophecies of Aberjian were only written over the last 4000 years, in a dozen different languages, some of which aren't even human! Why don't we just get a phalangoid demon in here to suck the brain out of my skull? Maybe that would speed things up!"

...yes. Maddening. That was the word.

Cordelia whistled. "He sure gets testy when he's translating."

Wesley decided to try this one more time. "The word," he gritted out, "is pivotal to what it prophecies about the vampire with a soul. And –"

But before he could go on, he glanced down at his phone to see it blinking. How odd. He held it under the desk and opened his text messages, to find…

"Oh, thank goodness," he breathed, and he hurried to tap out a response.

Meanwhile, Cordelia's heels clicked against the floor as she came over to investigate, curiosity apparently piqued by that reaction. "What?" she demanded. "Did you find something? What?"

"What?" Wesley asked, sending the message out and shoving his phone back into his pocket. "Oh. Nothing. I'm sorry. You were saying?"
