Well. It was Darla; now they knew that much for certain. From the sparse report Angel had relayed to Wesley and Cordelia upon his return, it seemed that Darla had killed the man she'd hired to pose as her husband, then fled. Angel had followed her, and... hadn't killed her. That was all he'd said before shutting himself up in his room for the evening.

Today, though, he'd emerged, broody but with a plan, and Wesley and Cordelia as well as Angel's new -- and disturbingly familiar -- associate Charles Gunn dutifully congregated to listen to it.

''We have to find her.'' )

Wesley was fond of Angel. Really, he was. And he quite liked working for Angel Investigations, and it certainly gave him a sense of purpose, but all the same... he had no interest at all in looking for this woman's address. No, while Cordelia might be poring over the telephone book, Wesley was focusing a bit more on something he considered rather more important: looking up Darla herself.

"Having any luck?" Cordelia called over her phone book from the front desk.

Wesley froze. "I'm sorry?"

''Luck'' was such a vague word... )

Not long afterward, the phone rang... )

The last time Wesley had woken up in the hospital, it had been Karla who had been waiting by his bedside. The time before that, Giles. It was fair to say that neither of them had been as intimidating a sight to wake up to as Angel.

"You all right?" Angel asked, right off the bat once he noticed Wesley stirring.

Wesley nodded, managing with some effort to pull himself into a seated position – though more so due to the blankets pulled taut around him than the surprisingly minimal damage he could immediately discern. "Cordelia?" he asked.

"Got slammed with visions of all the pain and suffering in the world at once. Now she's been sedated and unresponsive," Angel answered, not mincing words. He held up the scroll. "This'll fix her?"

"It should," Wesley said, reaching out to accept it from him. "Would you, ah." He winced. "Get me a wheelchair, please?"

One translation and unbinding ritual later, Cordelia was awake, and the three of them in their newly officeless state set up shop in her apartment. )

wesleynotponcy: (?: WTF?)
The translation was not going well.

It didn't make much sense, was the thing. There were so many different languages, mainly demonic, and every time Wesley thought he'd made sense of a word's origin, he found it referenced elsewhere, in a different context, that disproved the entirety of what he'd already pieced together.

After hours of this, he finally forced himself out of the office long enough to pick up a cup of coffee and several texts that might aid him in the translation. By the time he returned, even more determined to return to work and finally piece this together, it was dark outside and he hadn't a clue where Cordelia was. He picked up his phone to check if he'd missed any calls, but --

Hmm. The cabinet was open. The one where he'd stored the prophecy just before going out. He knew he'd locked it before leaving. Had Angel opened it?

Wesley set his phone and the books down to retrieve the scroll. But just as he opened the cabinet, his priorities shifted. Because the scroll was missing, and in its place was a small, crudely-constructive explosive.

And then it went off.

As it turned out, the word that had been so difficult to translate turned out to be translatable after all. It wasn't, as Wesley had thought, Aegean, though the syntax had seemed to match up quite closely to the Eteocretan texts he had on file. Rather, it appeared to stem from the ancient Majars instead, making it proto-Hugaric. And it meant...

''Death.'' )

In Fandom, it was snowing today after over a week of holiday-themed festivities, and it was Christmas.

In Los Angeles, meanwhile, neither the weather nor the holiday seemed particularly relevant as Wesley pored over the scroll that Angel had stolen from Wolfram and Hart the week before. He'd managed to identify it – the Scroll of Aberjian – and locate the selection that pertained to the vampire with a soul, but actually deciphering what it said about Angel was proving difficult.

More accurately, it was proving maddening. )

Wesley was pretty much the most boring person ever, because instead of whinging about how unfortunate it was that spring break was over and he was no longer in Hawaii, he was on his laptop, researching demons. It was weird -- a few cities had records of some interesting attacks all in a row, creating a trail to -- hmm. Right to Los Angeles.

Because he had been back in Fandom for a grand total of one hour, he decided that the best way to spend his evening was tracking this thing. He created a little fort around him of books and promptly dissolved into research-mode.

Today Wesley was in his room and he was not reading, for a change. Well, not books, anyway. Actually, he was using his computer to check on local accidents and deaths in the Los Angeles area, because he was just obsessive like that. There didn't seem to be anything that screamed "demon," but it was well-established by this point that he was a very poor judge of paranormal happenings, if his visit to LA was any indication.

He stepped up his game and started to look through some of the message boards that, although he was fairly positive that they were crap, still occasionally presented some interesting information. One of the trending topics was leprechauns, though. That was discouraging.

Oh, now that was interesting. Reports of the LAPD acting oddly. A few disturbances near headquarters that seemed to suggest mystical influence. And an account saying that some of the cops had been... nice? Well, that was just strange. A spell, certainly.

He then proceeded to refresh the page on several local news sites, checking for news. Then it occured to him that that was probably extremely lame. He continued anyway.

[door is open! a little bit establishy for some Angel s1.]
