It wasn't until late that night that Cordelia got a call from Gunn. Wesley, as usual, sat and worked on homework while she fielded the call, though half his attention was dedicated to listening in on what she was saying.

![]() Cordelia | "Of course we're safe here without you," she dismissed, rolling her eyes. "That's not the point." Long pause. "Just that maybe we should back you up on this!" Another pause, and she rolled her eyes harder this time. "Because I don't want you to get hurt." She drummed her pen on the table, nodding for a moment, then interrupted him, "Of course I do, but -- hello? Ugh!" Hanging up the phone, she announced to Wesley, "Gunn's about to do a really stupid thing." |
Wesley | What else was new? Wesley looked up from his homework, pretending (badly) that he hadn't been listening in all along. "What did he say?" |
Cordelia | Cordelia rolled her eyes with the eye-rolling intensity of a phenomenally bored person. "Just that in order to find out if the police have been brutalizing and killing people in Anne's neighborhood, he's going to videotape the cops trying to brutalize and kill him," she summarized. |
Wesley | Wesley stared. "You can't be serious." That was his plan? That was the worst plan he'd ever heard! |
Cordelia | "Nothing says 'Aha, I'm onto you' like being on the receiving end of a vicious police beating!" Cordelia said. |
Wesley | "You couldn't stop him?" Wesley asked. Stupid question, he supposed. |
Cordelia | "Hello!" Cordelia exclaimed. "Gunn, stubborn, synonyms!" |
Wesley | "That can't be his plan, can it?" Wesley asked, looking appalled. "I mean, it's -- really a dumb plan." |
Cordelia | "Hey," Cordelia said, "Gunn graduated with a major in dumb planning from Angel University. He sat at the feet of the master and learned well how to plan dumbly." |
Wesley | Wesley sighed. "Well... we'll just have to let him do this." |
Cordelia | "Oh, I'm sure he'll be fine," Cordelia agreed, sinking back in her seat. |
Wesley | "He wants our help, he knows where to find us," Wesley said. |
Cordelia | "We'll do our work, Gunn can do his," Cordelia agreed. Never mind that their 'work' was high school homework and finishing up some of her laundry. |
Wesley | Wesley paused. Turned his attention to his homework for all of a second. Then pushed his chair back and stood up. "Right," he said, "let's get down there and save Gunn from himself." |
Cordelia | Cordelia grabbed her coat and followed him. "It's not like that laundry is really going anywhere," she decided, and then they were out the door. |
