Unfortunately, that fight? Hadn't gone so well. Hadn't gone well at all, actually; it had resulted in everyone being tossed in what was either a terribly-maintained basement that so happened to have bars on the door, or, more likely, a dungeon.
However! In what was surely a happy surprise for all, it turned out that the dungeon was not, in fact, meant to be a permanent storage center for the human-shaped prisoners. It might have been a less pleasant surprise, though, that their fate was left in the hands of someone who was purported to have a great deal of influence. Someone savage, someone powerful, someone with a great deal of influence over the way things were done in Pylea. This was the venerable monarch of Pylea, General of the Ravenous Legion, Eater of Their Enemies' Flesh, Prelate of the Sacrificial Blood Rites, and Sovereign Proconsul of Death, and she was prepared to pass sentence on upon them.
Or so the guard said as he announced her, anyway.
Then the doors to the throne room opened and Wesley's jaw dropped as he got a look at the highly bedazzled, bikini-wearing figure on the throne.
"Cordelia?"
There was a pause.
Then Cordelia dismissed the guards. And then she explained.

Angel | Cordelia finished up her story and Angel stared. "So they captured you as a slave," he summarized after a very long pause, just to clarify. |
Lorne | "And you were in the market when you got some sort of vision," Lorne contributed. |
Wesley | "And they mentioned that according to their sacred texts, their future queen was destined to be cursed with the Sight," Wesley chimed in. |
Cordelia | Cordelia held up a hand. "Princess, actually," she cut him off, examining one of the several dozen jeweled bangles currently adorning her wrist. "And yes." |
Loki | "And I am certain nothing terrible could come of this," Loki said, moving away from the expository dialogue. Just because he was from a comic book didn't mean he was a fan of it. |
Tara | "Maybe not?" Tara hazarded, trying to be hopeful. "Maybe ... the princess can just ask and they'll let us go?" She didn't sound like she believed it. |
Kennedy | "How come she gets to be the princess?" Kennedy grumbled, but only half in earnest; look, she was still bitchy about the whole dungeon-and-manacles thing, but she wouldn't complain too much if they'd lucked into having a connection who could save their asses. "God, I hate prophecy stuff. It always gets so messy. Also, if this ends up being a research thing, I call not it." |
Susan | Susan sighed a little, knowing that of course that was something she couldn't not call it on. Stupid being dependable. "It," she said, half-raising a hand. "Apparently I've gotten used to that." |
Wesley | "Well," Wesley said thoughtfully, "now that we've all congregated, the most pressing item is to begin working on how to leave here. Which I suppose would be primarily research, unless..." He glanced at Lorne. |
Lorne | Lorne scowled. Not because of anything in particular, but look, he was wary. "What?" |
Wesley | "Your family," Wesley said. "You could talk to them! See what they know about portal activity. The rest of us will stay here and see what we can find in the way of books that tell us how the portals are created." |
Lorne | "Whoa, whoa, whoa," Lorne interrupted. "Back up. You want me to talk to my family? On purpose!?" He was a little bit appalled! |
Wesley | "Well," Wesley reasoned, "it's that or face the possibility of never returning to our dimension ever again." |
Lorne | ... ... Finally Lorne looked as though that might have convinced him. "All right, fine," he groused. "Who's up for the field trip?" |
Kennedy | "Me," Kennedy said instantly, giving Lorne a very pointed look. "'cause I don't know about you, but I kind of want to get home before anyone freaks out about me disappearing. Again." |
Angel | "I'll go," Angel decided. Partly because if it came to a fight, it had been a little awesome to be matched for strength when fighting the Drokken with Kennedy the other day. "Anyone else?" |
Tara | "I'm not leaving Kennedy," Tara declared, sidling over toward Angel. "So ... me too." |
Wesley | "Excellent," Wesley said, clapping his hands together. "Then Susan, Loki, and Alex, you can accompany Cordelia and me to the archives to see what we can find out about portal creation." Beat. Then he glanced from Loki to Alex. Realized what having them both in a group together would mean. "That is, if you're both certain you wouldn't prefer to go with Angel and Lorne." Was that a nasty look Lorne had just shot him? Must've been a trick of the light. |
Alex | Ahahahaha like Alex was going to leave Wesley in Loki's influence. "No," he said, looking steelily determined. "I'll stay with you." He didn't care if Loki went off with Lorne and Angel, he could corrupt them all he wanted to, whatever. |
Loki | "There are books," Loki said with a sniff. "I'll stay away from the certain doom." |
Wesley | "Right, then," Wesley said only slightly regretfully, nodding at Angel to start heading out with the first camp while he set off with Cordelia toward the library. "Onwards." |
