When last we left... this particular faction of our heroes, they'd just been attacked by a group of people who'd outnumbered Wes, Alex and Susan and had the element of surprise on their side. Fortunately, however, it seemed that the attackers had slightly underestimated their prey, as the aftermath of the battle left Wesley, Alex and Susan triumphant while the majority of their attackers were left moaning on the ground.
Rather impressive for a group of teenagers, really.

Rather impressive for a group of teenagers, really.
Wesley | "Well," said Wesley as he caught his breath, still a little amazed that they'd come out on top. "I'd say we did rather well." |
Alex | Alex gave Wesley a 'much with the understatement?' sort of look, then said conversationally, "Did you know I'm also the god of rout in battle?" |
Wesley | ... "That's actually... really quite good to know," Wesley said after a pause. "Truly." Alex's bad side suddenly seemed like a far less desirable place to be, yes. |
Susan | "We did what we needed to do," Susan said, wiping the end of the poker she'd created on the ground to get rid of the... whatever was on the end of it. Apparently she'd poked someone somewhere that didn't normally require poking. There was a bonus to being able to create anything, including weaponry. She just didn't know why she kept going for that. "I suppose the next step is figuring out what to do with them." |
Wesley | That was... something Wesley had neglected to consider throughout the hacking and slashing. He was occasionally a little shorter-sighted than he let on. "Well, we could... I suppose we could always see if there isn't some sort of way to join up with them?" he tried. "If they're rebelling against the Covenant of Trombli, they've got good intentions, after all, despite all the... attempted kidnapping." Wes really knew how to see the good in some people, clearly. "And if their plan is to storm the castle, then chances are they at least know where it is." Which was important. Because they were lost, Mr. Following-The-Sun. |
Susan | Susan could see nothing at all going wrong with that plan. Really. "I suppose we do already know that we can beat them if need be," she said, considering. While giving some of the rebels looks that said it had better not come to that or she'd be very cross. |
Alex | They could use them for cannon fodder. Not that Alex was voicing that opinion aloud. He didn't need the weird looks right now. Instead, he went with, "They might at least have a map." |
Wesley | "Then... we'll do that, then." And hope it didn't go very badly. "Though we probably ought to talk to them first." So yeah. Go do that, children. |
Angel | Since Angel's primary strategy in getting back to the castle had revolved around following scents, it might not come as a surprise that he was choosing to derail Tara and Kennedy in order to duck into a clearing and see what was going on there. Which was... a bunch of people in tattered clothes getting what sounded like a pep talk, delivered by... "Wesley?" Hadn't Wesley, Alex and Susan been on book duty? What? |
Tara | "It looks like him and Alex and Susan," Tara agreed, then raised her voice a bit. "Hi, Wesley!" She was going to try to be perky, even in the face of near-certain doom and the fact perky didn't especially suit her. |
Kennedy | This whole demon-dimension thing was really getting to Kennedy now, so perky was far from an accurate description of her. Tense and really twitchy would be closer to the truth, but at least her sense of sarcasm was intact. "This is so not research," she chimed in. "But saves us the trouble of trying to find you, so hi anyway." |
Wesley | Typical. They went looking for Angel and the others, they got accosted by rebels who wanted to take their heads off. They stuck around and stopped looking for their friends, and there they were. What the hell, Pylea. "Oh! You're -- here!" Wesley was occasionally super-observant. "Hello." Huh. This seemed to be an easier break than he'd been expecting. He gestured for the rebel troops to talk amongst themselves, then hurried over to Kennedy, Tara and Angel. "Did you hear anything useful from Lorne's family?" |
Kennedy | "Never to take child-rearing advice from anyone from this world?" Sorry, Wes. Kennedy sounded pretty bitchy. "So that's a no. On the other hand?" She tilted her head in Fred's direction. "Found someone who could be really useful." |
Fred | "N-not that useful," Fred insisted with a nervous laugh. "It's just -- the trionic speechcraft formulation/modification has to alter the dynamic reality sphere... Lutzbalm predicted it at Zurig in '89 -- laughed him off the stage! Although this slavery and degradation's no laughing matter." After another nervous little laugh, she added, "It's no Crug-grain and kallaberry breakfast, all right!" ...So Fred had been here a while, guys. |
Wesley | .........well, then. "Well," said Wesley, "any help she can offer on the... portals?--" quick glance at Angel to verify that that was indeed the topic being discussed, which was returned with a nod-- "would be greatly appreciated. As for the, ah, problem of the palace guards... we've rounded up some additional forces." Wave 'hi' to the band of rebels, guys! |
Tara | "Wow," Tara said, attempt at pep faltering. "And they're ... on our side? For real?" She was having a hard time believing anyone in this world was. |
Angel | Angel looked from Wesley over to the crowd of rebels. They weren't an especially persuasive sight, considering their tattered clothes and makeshift weapons and the fact that they'd clearly just been beaten by three teenagers... but a few weeks of Wes running Angel Investigations before any of this had even begun meant that his answer was obvious. "Wes knows what he's doing," Angel said. He gave Wesley a meaningful nod. "Just let us know when you want us to move out." |
Kennedy | Kennedy kept casting dubious glances over at the rebels, but when Angel's words sank in her attention snapped to Wesley immediately. "Ready whenever you say the word." Which she hoped was soon; she really wanted to get home. |
